I’ve been in a little of a creative rut lately, so looked through my papers and scraps to see if I could find any inspiration. Of course whatever I was making had to include gold… clearly I have an addiction^^ … but what else. I picked out the Pink Paislee C’est La Vie number 03 paper as it is well gorgeous and set to work with my acrylic paints, firstly giving the whole sheet a ‘tea stain’ effect.
From there I set about painting the roses with watered down acrylic paint … (you could also use watercolours if you wanted to try this, I just like acrylics ^^) .
Once the paint was dry I did add a thin layer of matte varnish (the DoCrafts brand that is sold alongside their acrylic paints) this got rid of the slight chalky texture of the paint and added a little protection for the embellishment. As a finishing touch I highlighted some of the details on the floral design with gold paint. This was definitely a labour of love, thank goodness for TiVo, needed a lot of saved up TV ^
Then it was just a case of layering up paper scraps, washi tape and die cut and embossed gold circles I made from gold card from the craft store to create the main body of the embellishments, with chipboard buttons (from My Mind’s Eye), machine stitching, puffy heart stickers (from Freckled Fawn) and some word stickers (from Crate Paper)
Slowly but surely I am wriggling my way out of my creative rut ^__^
Been working on some embroideries… made the one above for my craft room and the two below for my sister. I think they turned out great, so hopefully I will be making some more. ^__^
I have been playing with watercolours some more today and really like the style of the flowers… now to create pages with them ^__^
Found these lovely little 4 inch hand fashioned aluminium bali letters and characters in Love Earth Store (in the Enterprise Arcade in Stockton on Tees).
I just had to get some of these and hoping to find a use for them within my project life. I got and ‘S’ and two ampersands… one ampersand to go on display in my are room ^__^
First order is from Hey Little Magpie… which includes some goodies from the new Crate Paper wonder collection. I love the self inking ‘hello’ stamp… I adore the word hello ^__^
Second is my order from Scrapbook.com… I think I may have gone a little overboard ^__^
Got some papers from the new Barista collection from BasicGrey, the yellow, grey and black colour scheme is so beautiful. Also got some more goodies from the Color Ways collection (Noir) from Paper House Productions, the papers I got in my last Scrapbook.com order are so beautiful and great quality^^
There’s a little more colour in my orders this week… and lots of gold. Love the Heidi Swapp project life kits and got them for under $10 each^^
Although I still have to decorate (my apartment is a new build) I have been working on getting my art room organized… my own little sanctuary, complete with a vintage Olivetti typewriter (called Ducky as its duck egg blue^^ )
I’m building up an apothecary style, lots of bottles, jars and baskets, both wicker and wire… and skulls and skeletons of course^__^
I have two of my paintings above my desk (my favorites) and two of the photos I took in the Catacombs under Paris.
I love my wire letter rack, although instead of letters it holds my new supplies ready to be sorted ^__^
My haul of goodies from Wilkinsons, TK Maxx and Hobbycraft. Can’t believe my luck at finding three Heidi Swapp embellishment packs in TK Maxx… and the gold foil tags from Hobbycraft are just gorgeous^^
On Saturday morning the postman made my day, delivering monochrome and gold goodness.
Some paper and die cuts from the Kaisercraft Art of Life collection available from Papermaze.co.uk, some metal embellishment from Tim Holtz and MME available from Craftie Charlie on ebay, some tiny little gold stars from thebeautyboxboutique on ebay, meant for nails, but I’m pretty sure I can use them in my scrapbooking ^__^ and I adore the bows and glitter fabric I ordered from Fabulousfeltz on ebay^^
On Monday I had a little play and made myself some felt and vinyl bows… gold and black and white of course^^
